Westminster Kingsway College recently welcomed a group of 12 students from JEI University based in South Korea to take part in an 8 week programme achieving an International Culinary Diploma – Level 2.
The students graduated at the beginning of March, celebrating the completion of their courses at a certificate presentation held at the College’s Victoria Centre in London.
On the 30th January, JEI and WKC chef students worked together to prepare and serve Korean menus to serve 200 people at WKC. WKC’s professional chef students also had an opportunity to participate in master classes by Professor Ahn from JEI University on 29-30 January; a great experience for both JEI and WKC students to make new friends and enhance their culinary skills.
JEI students took part in a visit to Maze, Gordon Ramsay’s Restaurant in Mayfair where they met the Head Chef and were given a private tour of the kitchens with a luxury dining experience. A former participant of this joint programme now works at Maze restaurant.
The students also visited Reynolds, one of the UK’s leading fresh fruit and vegetable suppliers. A senior staff member at Reynolds provided an overview of the company, followed by a tour of the warehouse and its vast selection of products.
The opportunity for JEI students to attend classes alongside WKC students from the UK optimised the chance for them to improve their ability to understand and speak English; evident through the vast improvement over the two month period.
